INTRODUCTION

This was the first audit of the Sex Offender Management Board. The Board was created by the Sex Offender Management Board Act of 1997 (20 ILCS 4026) which became effective on July 22, 1997. The Board was created to standardize the evaluation, identification, counseling, and continued monitoring of sex offenders at each stage of the criminal or juvenile justice systems or mental health systems. The Board is comprised of 20 members who have demonstrated substantial expertise and experience in the field of sexual assault. The Acting Chair is Doug Simpson, Office of the Attorney General. There were no material findings of noncompliance disclosed by our audit tests.

FINANCIAL RELATED ACTIVITY

There was limited financial activity by the Board during the audit period. A fund has been established in the State Treasury into which funds received from public or private sources can be deposited. However, the Board did not request appropriations during the audit period and therefore did not accept a restricted donation of $5,000 in Fiscal Year 2000. Board records are housed within the Office of the Attorney General.
