The Act empowers the Legislative Research Unit to be the central research agency for the General Assembly. The staff collects information concerning the government and general welfare of the State, examines the effects of constitutional provisions and previously enacted statutes, considers important issues of public policy and questions of State- wide interest, and performs research and provides information as may be requested by the members of the General Assembly or as the Joint Committee on Legislative Support Services considers necessary or desirable. There were no material findings of noncompliance disclosed during our examination. ACCOUNTANT'S OPINION We conducted a compliance examination of the Legislative Research Unit for the two years ended June 30, 2015 as required by the Illinois State Auditing Act. The accountants stated the Legislative Research Unit complied, in all material respects, with the requirements described in the report. WILLIAM G.
